A number of local banks and public offices have announced closings in observance of Presidents’ Day, while others will be conducting business as usual.
Town offices in Pulaski and Dublin will be closed Monday, Feb. 18, along with state offices. Garbage pickup scheduled for Monday in Dublin will be picked up Tuesday, Feb. 19, along with Tuesday’s regular pickup. Post offices also will be closed and no mail will be delivered.
Pulaski County administrative offices will be open, however, along with Pulaski County Public Service Authority (PSA), which indicated garbage pickup will stay on the normal schedule. Also planning to run on schedule that day will be Pulaski County schools.
Pulaski Area Transit will remain open Monday, and reported no changes in service for the holiday.
Banks are also reporting varied schedules for Presidents’ Day. National Bank of Blacksburg (NBB), BB&T, Bank of America, Carter Bank & Trust and Stellar One will all be closed, while Wells Fargo will be open for business.
The offices of the Commissioner of Revenue and Treasurer will be closed, while the registrar’s office will be open.
Pulaski General District court, along with Pulaski Circuit, Juvenile and Domestic Relations District courts will not hold session on the holiday.
Presidents’ Day was established in 1885 in recognition of George Washington’s birthday, and is still officially called “Washington’s Birthday” by the federal government. The holiday is considered a day to celebrate all U.S. presidents, past and present. Presidents’ Day is generally observed the third Monday in February.
