Dillion Alley led the Cougars with a second place finish in the triple jump (42’6 ¼”), third in the high jump (6’) and fourth in the long jump (19’8”). Boy’s captain Ian Calfee placed third in the shot put (47’6”) while his cousin Kareem Calfee placed sixth (42’6 ¼”).  James Reynolds placed 11th in the shot put (42’10 ½”).  Malik Eaves placed 6th in the high jump (5’6”) while his teammate Lonnie Maddox placed sixth in the long jump (18’11 ¾”).  Eaves also finished in tenth in the long jump (18’1”) and thirteenth in the 55 meter dash (7.18 sec).

The 4 x 400 meter relay team of Daegan Friend, Hesus Hickman, Cole Truman and Damon Akers placed fourth (3:47.64).  The 4 x 800 meter relay team of Grey Quesenberry, Chris Taylor, Akers and Friend placed fourth with a time of 8:56.18.  The 4 x 200 meter relay team of Alley, Hickman, Maddox and Eaves placed fifth (1:37.44).

“I’m very proud of both the men’s and women’s teams” said Head Track & Field Coach Jamie McCarty. “It was a great meet for us!  For the guys to come away 5th is a great sign. We have a lot of youth and low numbers, so it was a great job for them to finish in that position.  I feel very confident that we will be a much better team come this spring. We gained a lot of experience over the last several weeks.”

Blacksburg High School won the Region IV Championships with 144 points.  Christiansburg finished in second place with 93 points followed by Salem (51), Abingdon (40), Pulaski County (36 ½), Marion (21), Cave Spring (12 ½), Hidden Valley (12), Patrick County (10), Martinsville (8) and Magna Vista (2).

Dillion Alley, Ian Calfee, Kareem Calfee, Malik Eaves and Lonnie Maddox will represent Pulaski County in the Virginia State Indoor Track & Field Championships on February 23. The meet will be held at Liberty University in Lynchburg.
