Elizabeth Bushong Dent, 91, of Pulaski, passed away at her home Friday, Feb. 8, 2013. She was born in the family home on Lake Street, Pulaski, March 8, 1921, and was a resident of Pulaski her entire life. She was the daughter of the late Dr. Abraham Miller Bushong and Emily Allison Bushong, both of Pulaski. Mrs. Dent was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles E. Dent.
In her life, Mrs. Dent, known as Betsy to her many friends, was a dedicated wife, mother and homemaker, devoting most of her life to caring for her husband and son, as well as her two sisters, Emily B. Liskey and Nancy H. Bushong, both of whom predeceased her. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church, Pulaski.
Mrs. Dent was a founding member of the Thursday Bridge Club, considered to be the oldest continuously active bridge club in Pulaski until its disbanding in May 2012, as well as a member of the Round Dozen Club and the Child Study Club. She will be remembered for her smile and laughter, her concern for others, and her encyclopedic knowledge of the families of Pulaski County.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Charles E. Dent Jr. and Marilyn K. Dent of Derry, N.H.; granddaughter and spouse, Virginia D. and Alexander C. Kahn of Southborough, Mass.; great-grandchildren, Benjamin I. Kahn and Violet M. Kahn, both of Southborough, Mass., and several nieces and nephews and their children.
A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church, Pulaski, Tuesday, Feb. 26, at 10 a.m. following interment in Oakwood Cemetery. After the service the family will receive friends at a reception in the Church Fellowship Hall. The family wishes memorials be made to the First Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 824, Pulaski, VA 24301.
