Baptist Association looking for “Voices of the New River”

The third annual “Voices of the New River” talent search is being planned for the youth of the Twin Counties and the New River Valley to come together and share their talents.  The event is being sponsored by the New River Baptist Association, a ministry made up of 28 area churches.

The contest is open to all youth, regardless of church affiliation.

The event is open to vocalists and instrumentalists age 21 and under and the winner will earn a grand prize of 40 hours of studio recording time – a $1200.00 value – at Audio Lab studio in Galax. This year a contract will be awarded in both solo and group categories.  First runner up will receive $100 and 2nd runner up will receive $50 in both categories.  A total of $2700 in prize money will be awarded.

Auditions will be held Saturday – March 9, 2013, starting at 10:00 a.m. at Stringbean Coffee Shop in downtown Galax for soloists and groups. Last year’s event saw approximately 30 entries, this year the event will receive the first 50 entries.  At the audition, a panel of judges, all with musical backgrounds, will evaluate performers.  The judges will narrow the field down to four performers in the group category and eight performers in the soloist category.

The top performers will then perform at the Rex Theater in Galax on Sunday, March 17, 2013 from 3 to 5 p.m.  The top performers will be determined by a vote from each audience member and a panel of judges.  During intermission, “Running Ever After” the 2012 winners of the competition, will be performing.  Admission will be a love offering to help with the expenses of the event.

Complete rules and regulations for entry, as well as entry forms, can be found at  HYPERLINK “http://www.newriverbaptistyouth.com/” \t “_blank” www.newriverbaptistyouth.com.  Entry fee is $20 for soloists and $30 for groups. These funds will be used to recover expenses for the program.

All music must be church-friendly, and the contest is open to all youth.  For more information you may contact Steve Horton at 276-233-6605.
