BARREN SPRINGS – A three-truck, chain-reaction-type, crash in Barren Springs claimed the life of a Pulaski woman Monday.
Chief Deputy Keith Dunagan with Wythe County Sheriff’s Office said the 2:20 p.m. wreck that resulted in the death of 86-year-old Reba A. Bratton occurred on Wysor Highway in front of Barren Springs Post Office.
Dunagan said Bratton was a passenger in a 1995 Mitsubishi pickup truck that was stopped behind two other vehicles, the first of which was preparing to turn into the post office. The collision occurred when a 2001 Ford pickup truck was unable to stop and hit the rear of the Mitsubishi. The collision then pushed the Mitsubishi into the back of the 1996 Chevrolet pickup truck stopped in front of it.
According to Dunagan, Bratton was airlifted to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, where she died from her injuries.
Dunagan identified the driver of the Ford as Betty L. Manuel 69, of Barren Springs. He said Wendy S. Barnes, 42, of Draper was driving the Chevrolet and the operator of the Mitsubishi was William R. Bratton, 88, of Pulaski.
Details of other injuries were not available.
The wreck remains under investigation and Dunagan said “possible charges are pending.”
