American Red Cross has scheduled several bloodmobiles in the area during the month of January. The schedule is subject to change, so donors are asked to call 1-800-RED-CROSS to confirm drive dates and times before attending.

This month’s blood drives are as follows:

•Friday, Jan. 4, 1-6 p.m., Central United Methodist Church, Radford;

•Tuesday, Jan. 15, 9 a.m. – 2 p.m., George Wythe High School, Wytheville;

•Monday, Jan. 21, noon-6 p.m., Dublin Lions Club building, Dublin;

•Thursday, Jan. 24, noon-6 p.m., American Legion Post 68, Narrows;

•Friday, Jan. 25, 1-6 p.m., American Legion, Pulaski;

•Wednesday, Jan. 30, 11 a.m. – 5 p.m., Muse Banquet Hall, Radford University, and

•Thursday, Jan. 31, 11 a.m. – 5 p.m., Muse Banquet Hall, Radford University.

To be eligible to give blood, a donor must be healthy, be at least 17 years old, or 16 with parental consent, and weigh at least 110 pounds. Donors 18 years old and younger and all high school students may also have to meet other weight requirements.

Healthy means the donor feels well and is able to perform normal activities. Persons with chronic conditions such as diabetes can be considered healthy if they are being treated and the condition is under control.

    A suggestion:

    It would be great if an organization would organize a blood drive on a Saturday or a late evening (6-9) for those who work.
