Roanoke, VA- The Pulaski Middle School Orioles took on the Woodrow Wilson Middle School Eagles last week right before Christmas Break. The Orioles started out well, as they stayed ahead of the Eagles the majority of the first half. Near the end of the second quarter, Pulaski’s offense sputtered and they quickly found themselves down by eight at halftime. Woodrow Wilson Middle dominated the offensive boards in the second half and the Orioles failed to handle the full court pressure of the Eagles. The final score was Woodrow Wilson 55, Pulaski 34.
“The major difference in the game was our players were not boxing out well,” said Orioles head Coach Anthony Akers. “Woodrow Wilson definitely won the offensive rebound battle.”
Eighth grader Evan Austin led the Orioles with 8 points, followed by seventh grader Alex Akers with 7 points. Bryant Grubb, Jamall Edmonds and C.C. Grubb finished with 5 points each. Shawn Spencer and Trent Blankenship contributed 2 points each. Woodrow Wilson’s Hutchiason led the Eagles with 18 points while teammate McCarthy had 14.
