Patsy (P.T.) Thomas Smith

SMITH MOUNTAIN LAKE – Patsy (P.T.) Thomas Smith, 70, of Smith Mountain Lake, went to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Sunday, Dec. 23, 2012.

She was born July 25, 1942 in Pulaski. She was preceded in death by her parents, Juanita Bishop Thomas and Otto Thomas.

Those left to cherish her memory forever in their hearts are her devoted and loving husband of 52 years, Garnett Smith, the love of her life; daughter and son-in-law, Wendy Smith-Boone and J. Alexander Boone; grandson, Baylor Alexander Boone; devoted dog, Tres; special cousin, Jeanette Akers, and numerous other nephews, nieces and friends.

She was a retired employee of Appalachian Power Company and a wonderful wife, mother and friend. She had battled breast cancer and non-hodgkins lymphoma from 1999 to 2000 and ovarian cancer since 2007, and survived with the love and devotion of her husband, family and friends. She used that battle to inspire and comfort all who she came to know in person and over the Internet. She helped to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for cancer research and was determined to help find a cure for cancer.

Her passion and love were her God, her family, golf and her golfing buddies.

A memorial service will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at Church of the Holy Spirit, 6011 Merriman Way Road, Roanoke, with the Rev. Dr. Quigg Lawrence officiating, followed by a reception at The Waterfront Country Club, 275 Anchor Drive, Moneta.

In lieu of flowers, Patsy’s wishes were that donations be made to Southern Virginia Child Advocacy Center, 300 S. Main St., Rocky Mount, VA 24151 or a charity of your choice.

Patsy and her family would like to thank Dr. William Fintel and the staff at Blue Ridge Cancer Group, Lewis Gale Hospital, for their loving care and attention over the past 14 years.

Arrangements by Oakey’s Roanoke Chapel, 982-2100. Online condolences may be made at www.oakeys.com.
