FORT CHISWELL – Virginia State Police have been called in to investigate a shooting involving police in the Fort Chiswell area.
According to Chief Deputy Keith Dunagan with Wythe County Sheriff’s Office, a shot was fired from the residence into the front of the vehicle of the first officer arriving on the scene when police responded to a domestic dispute at a house off Route 52 south. He said the second deputy to arrive also had a shot fired into the front of his vehicle.
Dunagan does not specify who shot the suspect, but he says the suspect has been airlifted to a Roanoke hospital.
Identities of the suspect and officers have not been released.
Sheriff Doug King has requested State Police to investigate the shooting. Dunagan said they are still at the scene.
