Renovate, rebuild or consolidate? These are the options Pulaski County School Board has been pondering concerning Dublin Elementary School, as well as Pulaski and Dublin middle schools. During a special session of the board held in October, OWPR Inc. and Crabtree, Rohrbaugh and Associates presented bids. At the board’s last meeting held Nov. 8, OWPR Inc. was unanimously chosen to conduct a study regarding construction options for the schools. School board Chairman Mike Barbour said there was “no one single factor that caused (the board) to select OWPR.” He said both firms have a lot of knowledge. OWPR has a track record in Pulaski County. The firm was involved with the construction of Pulaski and Riverlawn elementary schools, and renovations at Snowville Elementary School. According to Dr. Thomas Brewster, superintendent, the board is currently reviewing the scope of the study and financing. He said he hopes it will be an action item on the agenda at the next board meeting scheduled for Dec. 13. Brewster said once the logistics are approved, OWPR will begin working immediately on the study. “I believe it’s no dispute we need to significantly improve our middle schools, as well as Dublin Elementary School. The study will give us a clear-eyed view of the conditions at each school,” Barbour said. He added the board’s first goal is to “have an understanding of all the options. This is the first step to something great.”
