John Jesse Hedge

John Jesse Hedge, age 64, went home to be with the Lord, Friday, Nov. 9, 2012, at Virginia

Baptist Hospital, Lynchburg.

John was born Nov. 7, 1948, in Baltimore, Md., to the late Jesse James Hedge and Betty Berger Jakubik. He was also preceded in death by his father, Thomas Jeff Hedge, and brother-in-law, Clarence “Cotton” Bell.

John was a dedicated member of First United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Men.

He was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served during the Vietnam Conflict. He was retired from Alliant Tech with over 30 years service. He was a proud member of the High School Class of 1967.

Surviving are his wife, Melody Elkins Hedge, of Pulaski; sons, John Warren Hedge, of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Trevor Vaughn Hedge, of Pulaski; stepson, Rodney Brian Atkinson, of Orting, Washington; mother, Marie Hedge, of Snowville; stepmother, Pauline Hedge, of Snowville; sisters-and brothers-in-law, Lydia Bell, of Hopewell, Brenda and Phillip Weatherington-Valdosta, of Georgia, and Connie and Tim Lancaster, of Winston Salem, N.C.; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jimmy Hedge, of Snowville, Douglas and Bridgett Hedge, of Pulaski, Don and Robin Hedge, of Shiloh, Edward Jakubik, of Baltimore, Md., and Steven and Chris Jakubik, of Baltimore, Md., and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Rebecca and Joe Plemons, of Indian Head, Md.

Funeral services will be held today, Tuesday, Nov. 13, 1 p.m., at the First United Methodist Church, Pulaski, with the Rev. Hugh Kilgore officiating. Interment will follow at Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery, Dublin, with full military honors conducted by Pulaski VFW Post 1184.

The family will received friends Monday, Nov. 12, from 5-7 p.m., at Bower Funeral Home, Pulaski.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in John’s memory be sent to First United Methodist Church, 135 Fourth St. N.W., Pulaski, VA 24301.

    We are so sorry. Just a few months ago at the Thomas’ anniversary celebration we sat at the table with Johnny and his wife. He seems so happy and upbeat. All that was acquainted with Johnny will miss his presences until they see him again in a wonderful place.
