Mason Compton, 98, of Dublin died Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2012, at Radford Health and Rehab Center in Radford.
He was born Oct. 7, 1914, in Tazewell. Mr. Compton worked for many years for U.S. Steel and was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in WWII. He loved nature and always enjoyed fishing, gardening and the outdoors of life.
He is survived by his son, Tom Compton of Dublin; three grandchildren, Council Jim Compton of Dublin, Lea Compton Monday and her husband, Doug, of Max Meadows, and Kimberly Dawn Slusher and her husband, Mike, of Wytheville; three great-grandchildren, Mason Monday, Keily Monday and Justine Hite, and one sister-in-law, Mildred Walker, of Marmet, W.Va.
Memorial services will be held Thursday, Nov. 1, 5 p.m., at Thomas M. Seagle & Sons Funeral Home, with Dr. John White officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday, from 3-5 p.m., before the service. Internment will be private at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in the form of donations to the American Cancer Society, 2840 Electric Road, Suite 106 , Roanoke, VA 24018.
