Hubert Lee “Bud” Gooch Sr., 73, of Dublin, passed away Monday, Sept. 17, in Highland Ridge Rehab Center, Dublin.
He was born July 19, 1939, the son of the late Thomas Churchill Gooch and Hazel Sutphin Gooch. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Jane Gooch Faulkner.
Bud was a forerunner of the Green Revolution by starting his recycling business in Dublin. Bud was a member of New Dublin Presbyterian Church, where he served as a deacon. He was also a member of the Ruritan Club and was scoutmaster for Troop 45 in Dublin.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Dorothy O’Conner Gooch; children, Dr. Hubert Lee Gooch Jr. and his wife, Karen Mink Gooch, Gregory C. Gooch and partner, Gerald Korblick, and Katherine M. Gooch Cummings and her husband, Ralph E. Cummings; grandchildren, Jonathan G. Gooch, Alexandria E. Gooch and Victoria A. Cummings; brother, Thomas Richard Gooch and his wife, Brenda Gooch, and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held Thursday, Sept. 20, at 11 a.m. from New Dublin Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Andrew Taylor-Troutman officiating. A reception will follow in the church’s fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes memorial gifts be made to New Dublin Presbyterian Church Water Wells for Africa Fund, 5331 New Dublin Church Road, Dublin, VA 24084.
