Otis Bobby Lee Banks Sr.

Otis Bobby Lee Banks Sr., 64, of Wytheville, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2012, at LewisGale Medical Center in Salem. He was born Nov. 27, 1947 in North Carolina to the late Bobby Lee and Vivian Miller Banks. He was preceded in death by a brother, Jerome Banks and two sisters, Pearlea Mae and Bobbi Sherry Banks. He was a graduate of Genoa Park Central High School in Bluefield, W.Va. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served as vice president of the Wytheville Chapter of the NAACP for 20 years. He was a part-time football coach at George Wythe High School for four years and worked for the Wytheville Parks and Recreation Department. He also worked as a custodian at George Wythe High School for 15 years. Otis was an active member of Bethlehem Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Faye Sturn Banks; daughters, Deborah (Missy) Banks of Roanoke, Fetina (Frederick) Pennington of Nashville, Tenn., Renee Banks of Pulaski, Sheila (Wayne) Black of Wytheville, Beverly Brown of Baltimore, Md., and Vonda Bruce of Christiansburg; sons, Otis Banks Jr. of Norton, Corey (Tina) Boggs of Wytheville, Michael McMillian of Bristol, Tony (Missy) Bruce of Dublin, and Roberto (Pete) Banks of Pulaski; brother, Prince (Pat) Banks of Wytheville; sisters, Lena Jo (Mark) Brown of Pulaski, and Levata Brown of Wytheville; special uncle, Prince Banks of Upper Malboro, Md.; special niece, Theresa Smeadly of Upper Malboro, Md.; special friend, Larry Thompson of Bluefield, W.Va.; 30 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be held Friday, Aug. 10, 2 p.m., at Barnett Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Shelley Kyle and the Rev. Kenneth Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in West End Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 1 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.
