Fairlawn and Radford residents will have to travel a little farther than they used to if they want to buy a Whopper.
The Burger King restaurant at 7438 Lee Highway closed permanently July 31 and the building is for sale. John Newcomb Enterprises Inc. of Blacksburg was the franchise owner of the restaurant through a subsidiary, ERW Inc.
A spokeswoman at the Blacksburg office confirmed the restaurant closed July 31, but referred additional questions to Peggy Meade, the company’s human resources manager.
Further details were unavailable. As of press time Friday morning, Meade had not returned a reporter’s message left on her voice mail Thursday afternoon.
According to The Southwest Times’ archives, the restaurant opened in July 1983. At that time, it was owned by JBJ Inc.
Another subsidiary of the Blacksburg business, Town House Foods Inc., owns the Dublin Burger King.
The registered address for Newcomb Enterprises, ERW Inc. and Town House Foods is 910 Triangle St., Blacksburg. John Newcomb is listed as the owner of ERW, the principal of Town House and as the president of Newcomb Enterprises.
