Garrett Isaac Simmers

KINGSPORT, Tenn. – Garrett Isaac Simmers, 6, of Kingsport, Tenn., died unexpectedly Friday, July 20, 2012.

Born in Kingsport, Garrett had completed kindergarten at John Adams Elementary School. Garrett was a member of First Broad Street United Methodist Church and Mrs. Sally’s Sunday school class. He loved life and always had a smile on his face.

He was preceded in death by his paternal great-grandparents, Marshall Oliver, Garnett Simmers and Clara Simmers, and maternal great-grandmother, Lenore Tallman.

Garrett is survived by his parents, Mendy and Eddie Simmers of the home; brother, Grant Simmers of the home; maternal grandparents, Steve and Janet Walker of Pennsboro, W.Va.; paternal grandparents, Eddie and Julia Simmers of New River; aunts and uncles, Megan and Jens Schwarte, Kelly and Rachel Simmers, and Daryn and Ashley Simmers; maternal great-grandparents, O.J. Tallman, and Oren and Florence Walker; paternal great-grandmother, Joyce Oliver, and several cousins.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, July 25, 4-7 p.m., at First Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall. Children are welcome and there will be a special area for them in the Fellowship Hall.

Memorial services will be conducted Thursday, July 26, 11 a.m., at First Broad Street United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Will Lauderback officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Broad Street United Methodist Church Children’s Ministry, 100 E. Church Circle, Kingsport, TN 37660.
