Property owners, boaters and other volunteers are urged to take part in Friends of Claytor Lake’s (FOCL) annual All Lake Cleanup to be held Saturday, Aug. 4.

FOCL works throughout the year to remove trash and debris from the lake. To date, 29 loads of debris, six tires, 30 trash bags, two docks and two large logs have been removed from the waterway.

The upcoming cleanup, which has a rain date of Sunday, Aug. 5, is for trash and small debris only. Woody debris will not be accepted.

According to a FOCL press release and its website, dumpsters will be available at six locations around the lake so cleanup participants can discard items collected in the group’s designated bags. The Coast Guard Auxillary is joining in the effort and will have boats available to pick up trash from volunteers from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

For the location of the dumpsters, see the accompanying map, or visit focl.org for a larger map.

FOCL will hand out free tote bags to boaters who drop off trash at any of the dumpsters or boats.

For those who would like to participate, but don’t have a specific location to clean, Claytor Lake State Park is accepting volunteers. Call 643-2500.
