Virginia Church Furniture, 190 First St. NW, Pulaski, caught fire Tuesday afternoon.
According to Pulaski Fire Department Chief Bill Webb, the fire department received a call at 1:25 p.m. Six units responded with 25 people from Pulaski Fire Department. Dublin Volunteer Fire Department also responded to the call, bringing an aerial truck and engine with seven personnel.
When firemen appeared on the scene medium to heavy smoke was coming from the building. Firemen made sure all employees were evacuated and accounted for and began fire suppression operations.
The fire was controlled at 2:20 p.m. and units left the scene at 3:49 p.m.
The probable cause was a lightning strike during Tuesday’s storm that ignited a spray finishing both, although the exact cause is still under investigation.
The fire resulted in approximately $20,000 in damage to the building.
No injuries were reported, however one fireman was taken to the hospital due to heat related issues.
Pulaski Fire Marshal’s Office, Pulaski County Emergency Services, REMSI, Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office, Pulaski Police Department, Pulaski Public Works and Appalachian Power also responded to the call.
