DUBLIN – It was revenge time for the Pulaski County High School jayvee softball team. Galax knocked off the Cougars 6-3 in the second game of the season for PCHS and the Cougars wanted nothing more than to return the favor. Return the favor they did as they claimed a 5-1 victory over Galax this past week.

Galax got the scoring started in the first as Carleigh Pack singled, moved to second on an error, stole third and came home on a Cougar error. However, Cougar hurler Courtney Beville would retire the next three batters to end the inning.

The Cougars went down 1-2-3 in the first two innings, but in the third Maegen Memitt singled to lead off the inning. She stole second, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored when Kennedi Hart reached base on an error. Hart moved to third on two consecutive passed balls. Chelsey Gravely walked and took second on a passed ball and third on an error that scored Hart. Marissa Stephens singled to left. Caroline Powers walked to load the bases. Amanda Monroe connected on a single up the middle to plate Gravely and Stephens crossed home on a fielder’s choice by Beville.

Galax threatened in the fourth and sixth, but could not get a run home. The Cougars’ final run came in the fourth when Lauren King singled up the middle, took second on a passed ball, moved to third on an error and scored on a double by Stephens.

Beville (9-5) picked up the win. She gave up one run (unearned) on three hits. She walked two and fanned 14 across seven innings. Lauren Garvey took the loss for Galax.

Stephens finished the day 2-for-3 with one run, two RBI, a single and double. The other Cougar hits came from Monroe, Memitt, and King.

The Cougars are 9-5 after the win and will host Hidden Valley on Friday at 5 p.m.
