RADFORD – Boneda Blanche (Bonnie) Roatenberry, 86, a resident of Wheatland Hills Assisted Living Community in Radford, passed away Tuesday, May 22, 2012.
Bonnie had been a resident at Wheatland Hills for 13 years, after suffering a severe stroke. Prior to her stroke, Bonnie lived at Claytor Lake for 27 years, and was also a former resident of the Wolf Creek community near Narrows. Born June 19, 1925 at Narrows, she was the daughter of the late William H. and Nora L. Wheeler. Bonnie retired from Radford University, having worked in food services there. She had been an active member of Dublin United Methodist Church, and volunteered with several agencies in Pulaski County.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her husband, David Rudolph Roatenberry, and her brothers, Edgar Wheeler, Ernest Wheeler, John Wheeler, Tom Wheeler, Leonard Wheeler, Paul Wheeler, Ray Wheeler, Carl Wheeler, Sam Wheeler and Clifford Wheeler.
She is survived by two sisters, Wava Testerman, Richlands, and Hazel Akers, Narrows; her sisters-in-law, Shirley Wheeler, Narrows, Iris Wheeler, Narrows, Betty Wheeler, Richmond, and Janet Wheeler, Flagstaff, Ariz. She is also survived by her children and their families, David Lynn Roatenberry of Newport News; Charles and Sue Roatenberry, and step-grandson Gregg Ratcliff and his sons Josh and Joe of Dublin; Tim and Marla Roatenberry of High Point, N.C., and her grandchildren Tara and Zachary Roatenberry, also of High Point, N.C.
A memorial service will be held Monday, May 28, at 1 p.m., at Dublin United Methodist Church, 424 E. Main St., Dublin. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Highland Gardens Mausoleum, Dublin.
