A Pulaski woman sustained a severe head injury Tuesday morning when her ex-boyfriend allegedly broke into her home and attacked her with a hammer.
In a press release, Pulaski Police Department Capt. Anthony C. Meredith said dispatchers received “multiple 911 calls” of a female yelling for help in the area of Fifth Street SW and South Jefferson Avenue around 8:30 a.m.
Officers located the woman, who has not been identified, on Sixth Street SW and found she had a severe, but non-life-threatening injury to the head, according to police.
The woman told police her ex-boyfriend, George Marvin Viers Jr., broke into the Sixth Street home while she was away, then attacked her with a hammer upon her return.
“The victim was able to escape the residence and run down the street screaming for help,” states the press release.
The victim was transported to LewisGale Hospital –Pulaski for treatment.
Viers, 38, of Pulaski, fled the scene, but was arrested without incident on Cedar Lane in Pulaski about 15 minutes after the attack.
He is charged with aggravated malicious wounding, felony breaking and entering and felony violation of a protective order. He is being held without bond at New River Valley Regional Jail.

Throw away the key on this dude. Crazy. Woman sees what he is and breaks up so he does this? Too bad she wasn’t ARMED when he attacked. Would have saved us a lot of tax dollars. Hope she’ll be OK.
