Arless Edwin Owens, Jr., 62, slipped into eternity on the morning of Nov. 23.
He was born in Pulaski County Nov. 20, 1949, the son of Arless E. and Nora Puckett Owens. His father preceded him in death on Dec. 4, 1999.
Arless had been fighting diabetes and bone infection for several years. He had recent surgery and was to have received his prosthesis on the afternoon of Nov. 23. While preparing for the trip to Roanoke, he suffered a massive heart attack.
He is survived by his daughter, Gena; grandson, Corey Lisi; granddaughter, Cameryn Lisi; fiancée, Jane Hester and her family, Angela, Randy, Ivy and Libby Davis, Chris Conner (Shelia, Ashley, Hunter and Brayden), Jennifer Conner and Scarlett Martin; his mother, Nora P. Owens; brother, Jon Davy Owens (Tammy); sister, Sharon Gunter (Harry); nephew, Bruce Gwynn (Lori); great-niece, Sarah Gwynn; great-nephew, Jon Gwynn; special cousin, Gary Davis; god son, Andrew Smart, and many other relatives and friends.
Arless was a graduate of Appalachian State University, class of 1972. He was an avid supporter of education and served as professor at Wytheville Community College and New River Community College until health conditions forced him into early retirement. Arless was a great sports fan and weather watcher.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, Nov. 27, at 2 p.m. from Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Mike Coleman and Harry Gunter officiating. Burial will follow in Shiloh Cemetery. Close friends will serve as pallbearers. Visiting will be at the funeral home Saturday evening from 6-8.

Mrs. Owens and Family, so sorry to hear of the passing of A.E. we sure thought alot of him and his beautiful daughter, you all seemed like family to us. JeVonna often spoke of him and what a nice guy he was. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family, but know he is in a better place and will not have to suffer any more. Your Friends in Tn.

I am so sorry for your loss. I worked with Arless many years ago at Disability Determination. He was like a breath of fresh air and seemed to always be smiling. I still think of him every time I drive by the house in Draper. I believe you knew my parents. They ran a drycleaning business in Pulaski for many years.
