PRINCETON, W.Va. — The Pulaski Mariners fell behind early but rallied behind Dylan Unsworth’s strong outing to take the first of the three-game Appalachian League set over Princeton 4-2 Monday at Hunnicutt Field.
The Rays (28-32) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning on Drew Vettleson’s two-run homer, but the Mariners (27-33) would respond with a two-run third, capped by Kenneth Straus scoring on a wild pitch to knot the game at 2-2.
Following three scoreless frames, Pulaski’s Tyler Marlette reached base on a fielding error and later scored to give the Mariners a 3-2 advantage.
They extended their lead with another run in the eighth on Daniel Paolini’s sacrifice fly, which plated Efrain Nunez to give the Mariners the final lead, 4-2.
Unsworth earned the win for Pulaski with his seven innings pitched, allowing just two runs on four hits, with three strikeouts and no walks in the game.
