Fort Chiswell– The Pioneers will kick off their 2011 football season Friday night as they travel to Rural Retreat to take on the Indians. They defeated the Indians last season, 42-45.
Fort Chiswell head coach Stephen James had this to say about Rural Retreat, “ They offensively will go with a split back look and will run the dive/veer option. They are patient and will watch to see if your secondary will come up and then throw the ball. They use both backs to rush the ball and the Foster kid is their best receiver.”
“Rural Retreat will line up in a 3-5 defense. They will and like to send linebackers, those linebackers will come from different places and will even drop one into pass coverage.”
Coach James continued, “The secondary for them play man to man but, sometimes play zone.”
Fort Chiswell came out of the “benefit” game with no major injuries. “We must be balanced on offense and run effectively,” Coach James remarked.
He then said, “We must run and stop their running, they like to get those 3-4 yards a pop.”
Defensively the Pioneers will probably start Desmond Perry and Danial Eversole at ends. Josh Gleason, Justice Houston and James King at tackles. The line backers are Coleman Thomas and Ken Govin. Starting in the secondary are Trey Jackson and Danial Hamms at the corners.
The safeties are Ray Rodrieguz and Corey Gravely, with McKenzie Mabe will be seeing action also.
On offense the Pioneers probables will be Austin Widelo at center. Coleman Thomas and Justice Houstin at guards. Right tackle is Josh Gleason with Dyllon Padgett playing left tackle. Tight end will be Ken Govin. Cory Mabry starts at quarterback with Ray Rodriguez and Danial Hamm the running backs. Starting wide receivers are McKenzie Mabe and Corey Gravely.
Kick off time will be 7:30 p.m. at Rural Retreat.
