A New River man was arrested on drug charges Thursday night when the local drug task force executed a search warrant at his home.
Pulaski County Sheriff Jim Davis said the Claytor Lake Drug Task Force allegedly found cocaine, assorted pills, an unspecified amount of cash and a handgun when they executed a search warrant at the home of James “Pippy” Payne Jr. off Manns Drive in the New River Community Thursday evening.
Payne Jr., 48, was arrested on six felony counts, including unlawful possession of a classified Schedule 1 drug, possession of a firearm, and four counts of distribution of a controlled substance. He is being held without bond at New River Valley Regional Jail.
According to Davis, the value of the seizure is not yet known.
The drug task force consists of investigators from Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office, Pulaski Police Department, Dublin Police Department, Radford City Police Department, Wythe County Sheriff’s Office and Virginia State Police.
