A Pulaski woman accused of murder in the death of her three-year-old son is slated to go on trial this morning in Pulaski County Circuit Court.
In addition to second degree murder, 38-year-old Lisa Michelle Hylton of Mashburn Avenue is charged with felony child abuse and neglect in the Sept. 30 death of Trevor Kane Hylton.
Prosecutors allege Hylton was negligent in failing to obtain medical treatment for the child for a period of 14 hours after he apparently ingested a Schedule II drug. They contend she knew the child ingested the drug, but still delayed getting him treatment.
Police responded to Hylton’s residence around 4:30 a.m. Sept. 30 upon receiving a report of a child not breathing. Pulaski Police Department Sgt. R. D. Rucker was able to get the child to Pulaski Community Hospital within five minutes of the call and emergency room workers tried for an hour to save the child’s life, but he was pronounced dead at 5:38 a.m.
Authorities have not released the type of drug the child ingested, but Schedule II drugs are drugs that have an accepted medical use, but also carry a high risk of abuse and both physical and psychological dependence. Methadone, oxycodone, and morphine are examples of Schedule II drugs.
