Vander “Van” Maurice Nester

CHRISTIANSBURG – Vander “Van” Maurice Nester, 62, of Christiansburg, passed away Friday, July 2, 2010. He was a U. S. Army veteran having served during the Vietnam Era. A graduate of Virginia Tech, he was a retired former owner of Star Electric Company. He was born in Roanoke, the son of Elda Sutphin Nester and the late Marvin Nester. Survivors include his wife of 42 years Velma A. Nester of Christiansburg; two daughters Wendy Yvette Nester of Santa Fe, N.M. and Kari Paige Nester of Wilmington, N.C.; a grandson Keean Eckert of Santa Fe, N.M.; three brothers and sisters-in-law Wayne and Donna Nester of Christiansburg, Allen and Jill Nester of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Tim and Joyce Nester of Radford; sister and brother-in-law Sonja and Dennis D’Souza of Roanoke; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held Monday, July 5, at 5 p.m. at Mullins Funeral Home in Radford with Elder Don Singleton officiating. The family will receive friends Monday from 4 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to the American Heart Association, 4504 Starkey Road, SW, Suite 115, Roanoke, VA 24018 or New River Valley Trout Unlimited, 4754 Shelburne Road, Radford, VA 24141.
