The Pulaski County Band Boosters completed what was a successful car raffle that helped to raise money for the band program.
The raffle was held on May 21 at 8 p.m. at the New River Valley Mall near the food court with the winner being a Radford native. Ms. Nona Sarver’s name was selected as the winner of the new 2009 Nissan Versa.
The car features a 1.6 liter engine with automatic transmission. Air conditioning, Alpine AM/FM stereo, and CD/multi-media (MP3) player are included. Sarver will also choose the pin striping color, which was an added bonus for winning the car.
Towards the end of the month, Sarver was presented with the new car by Kim Martin of New River Nissan and Tom Tucker, Vice President for Finance with the PCHS Band Booster Club.
New River Nissan sold the car to the band boosters at the lower discounted rate due in part to a deal between NR Nissan and the Boosters. 2000 tickets were then sold by the Boosters for $10 each at the mall during various weekends
The difference in money from the purchase price of the car and the $20,000 raised with the raffle tickets was used to help the band get much needed funding for their program, such as helping students to pay for band camp, travel expenses for competitions and football games, and repairs to band equipment and uniforms.
