As long as they obey the traffic signs, truckers shouldn’t have problems with getting their rigs stuck on Miller Lane (Route 644) anymore.
Virginia Department of Transportation has officially restricted through truck traffic from the road as a result of a request from Pulaski County Board of Supervisors. Trucks occasionally get stuck in a sharp curve on the road as they attempt to use it as a shortcut between Old Route 100 and Newbern Road.
The curves are so tight in areas of Miller Lane that large trucks cannot negotiate them.
According to a letter to County Administrator Peter Huber from Gregory A. Whirley, acting commissioner for VDOT, a traffic study and analysis of Miller Lane determined the road “meets the criteria” for a restriction on through truck traffic.
The restriction will apply to trucks with gross weights over 7,500 pounds, according to information provided at the fall meeting where the supervisors unanimously requested the restriction.
