Melanie Mack Martin Perkins, 67, of Emlee Street, Lexington, died on Wednesday, May 19, 2010, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. Born on October 27, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Charlie Taylor and Mildred Mishie McDonald Martin. She was a homemaker, a member of Full Gospel Independent Church, but attended Christ United Church of Christ. She was also a member of the Women of the Moose Lexington Chapter 1622 of Moose Lodge 317.
Ms. Perkins is survived by three sons, Craig R. (Elaine) Tolley and, C Patrick (Annette) Tolley of Lexington and O. Shane (Candy) Perkins of Martinsville; a stepson, Danny Ray Perkins of Pulaski; three stepdaughters, Vicki, Diane, and Dee Dee Perkins; a brother, Bobby Martin of Lexington; four grandchildren, one great-grandchild and her special canine companions Honey, Sugar, and Prissy. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son Jimmy Tolley and her former husband, Oscar Perkins.
The service to celebrate her life will be held on Saturday, May 22, at 11 a.m. at the Christ United Church of Christ, 4 Price Road, Lexington, with Rev. Claude Garrett, Jr., Rev. Ronnie Bowles and Dr. Charles Yarborough officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, May 21, from 6:30 until 8:30 p.m. at the church.
