Pharmacy employees fight robber

LAUREL-FORK – Carroll County authorities are seeking a man who robbed a pharmacy Friday afternoon and then fled in a white Ford Ranger pickup truck.
Carroll County Sheriff H. Warren Manning said a man entered Tri Area Pharmacy off Route 58 around 4:23 p.m. Friday, produced a handgun, then shouted “this is a robbery.”
The robber demanded that everyone stay back and not push any buttons or he would shoot them. He then jumped over the counter and ordered the pharmacist to open a safe where controlled drugs are kept.
As the robber knelt down near the safe and began raking the drugs into a black trash bag, a pharmacy employee came up behind the man and a fight ensued between the employee and robber. The robber was knocked onto his back on the floor and another employee joined in the scuffle in an attempt to wrestle the gun away from the robber.
During the scuffle, the gun discharged. Manning said the bullet struck a countertop, but no employees were injured.
At that point, the employees stepped back from the robber and the robber jumped back across the counter and left the store.
Manning said the robber fled on foot into a wooded area at the back of the pharmacy building. A short time later, a witness saw the robber leaving a field near the wooded area in the white 1995-1998 Ford Ranger pickup truck with an extended cab and no visible front license plate.
Police said the truck should have “a considerable amount of mud on it.”
The suspect is described as six-feet tall, 180-200 pounds, with collar length brownish-red hair. The man was wearing tree stand type camouflage bibbed overalls, a long sleeve camouflage shirt, gloves and a ski mask.
Manning said the suspect is considered to be armed and dangerous.
Anyone having information on the robbery or suspect is asked to call Carroll County Sheriff’s Office at (276) 728-4146 or (276) 236-5119.
