It’s been six months since the bodies of two murdered Virginia Tech students were found off Craig Creek Road in Montgomery County, but police have yet to determine who committed the crimes.
This Thursday, a multi-jurisdictional task force created to investigate the murders will hold a press conference to remind the public of the case and ask for continued assistance in bringing the killer or killers to justice. Authorities plan to make a brief statement at the 10 a.m. press conference at the Montgomery County Government Center, but they will not be taking questions, according to a press release issued Monday.
The task force, consisting of at least nine local, state and federal agencies, was established to investigate the August shooting deaths of 19-year-old David Lee Metzler of Lynchburg and 18-year-old Heidi Lynn Childs of Forest.
A pedestrian discovered the Virginia Tech students’ bodies at Caldwell Fields off Craig Creek Road just after 8 a.m. Aug. 27.
Metzler’s body was found inside his car and Childs’ body was lying outside the car.
Metzler was a sophomore in industrial and systems engineering and Childs was a sophomore in biochemistry. Both lived off campus.
Authorities issued a plea back in August for anyone possibly having information in the case to share the information with police.
Anyone in the area of Caldwell Fields or the Jefferson National Forest Shooting Range on Craig Creek Road between 8 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 26 and 8 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 27 is urged to call 540-382-2951 even if they do not think they have information pertinent to the case.
