PES students ‘Love the Bus’

When it comes to big hugs, none may be as big as the one Pulaski Elementary School students just gave.
Students encircled a county school bus in a group “hug” Friday morning to show it a little love. The activity was part of a “Love the Bus” campaign initiated by the American School Bus Council.
The purpose of the program is to promote positive relationships between bus drivers, students, parents and school officials, so as to promote “healthy transportation practices.”
The hope is that building better relationships and communications will reduce the number of bus incidents that can interfere with the School Bus Council’s goal of getting millions of children to and from school safely each day.
Pulaski County schools chose to participate in the “Love the Bus” campaign during the month of February as part of Valentine’s Day.
Besides giving a bus a big hug, bus drivers were invited to Pulaski Elementary Friday morning for a special breakfast. Some of the first grade students recognized the drivers by singing “for you’re the best bust drivers” to the tune of “For You’re a Jolly Good Fellow.”
Other program activities included kindergarten through second grade students preparing valentines for bus drivers who serve the school; third and fourth graders preparing valentine bags or envelopes in which to place the cards; and having fifth grade, middle and high school students make signs to put in the bus circles to thank the drivers.
The school’s transportation department gave each student safety rule pencils to further the efforts of safe transportation.

Sponsorships from area businesses made the bus driver luncheon possible. Participating sponsors were Food City, Food Lion, McDonalds in Pulaski and Dublin, CVS in Dublin, King Tire, Steer House, Wal-Mart in Dublin, Rite Aid, Fatz, Shoney’s, Flowers by Dreama Dawn, Floral Expressions, Cintas, Magic Mart, Janpak, Edens Distributing, and J. H. Pence.
