Area Haz-Mat teams complete Conny Oil cleanup

Hazardous materials teams have completed the clean up of oil, hydraulic fluids and any other chemicals that were spilled from ruptured containers when the roof caved in at the Conny Oil storage facility in the Town of Pulaski.
According to Fire Marshal Chip Hutchinson, about 200 gallons of less of spilled chemicals were removed from the facility by the end of the cleanup at about 7 p.m. Wednesday. All of the products stayed on the site, therefore not impacting any other properties or waterways.
Members of the Giles Regional Haz-Mat Team and the Radford Fire Department Haz-Mat Team assisted with incident.
Several drums and buckets of hazardous materials were damaged Feb. 5 when snow on the roof of the Conny Oil warehouse buckled under the weight of snow buildup. Some of the containers were punctured in the collapse.
The warehouse, on Commerce Street, were just one of several carports and other structures damaged by the recent heavy snowfall.
