Officials want to question van driver

A task force established to investigate the murders of two Virginia Tech students would like to talk to the driver of a silver or grey minivan seen in the vicinity of the crime scene on the night of the shootings.
Authorities say they received information that a silver or grey minivan was seen at Caldwell Fields on Craig Creek Road on the night David Metzler and Heidi Childs were shot to death.
Although police asked all persons who traveled Craig Creek Road on the night of Aug. 26 to come forward for an interview with authorities, no one who operates the type of minivan in question has come forward.
Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office is asking the operator of the vehicle to come forward. Investigators also are asking the public to report to police any information they may have regarding persons known to operate a vehicle matching that description who may have been in the Craig Creek area around Aug. 26.
An award in excess of $60,000 is available for any person who provides information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons who murdered the students.
Call the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office at (540) 382-2951 with any information about the case.
