DMS teacher receives suspended sentence

RADFORD — A Dublin Middle School teacher indicted last December on a felony charge of manufacturing marijuana, pleaded to a lesser offense Friday in Radford Circuit Court.
Lisa D. Toler, 30, of Radford, entered an Alford plea to a misdemeanor charge of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. An Alford plea means Toler is not admitting guilt, but she acknowledges there is sufficient evidence to find her guilty.
Toler, who taught seventh grade, received a 12-month suspended sentence and was fined $500. Her driver’s license was suspended for six months.
Radford police said in December marijuana plants were found growing in Toler’s apartment in August 2008.
Toler was suspended from her teaching position at the time of her arrest.
