Arrest made in throat slashing

A Pulaski man is being held without bond in New River Valley Regional Jail, accused of slashing the throat of another man Friday night.
Pulaski Police Department reports Douglas Lee Freeman, 24, was arrested on charges of aggravated malicious wounding and grand larceny of a vehicle after a man found lying in the road near the entrance to Gatewood Reservoir allegedly identified Freeman as his attacker.
Police said a passerby called police around 10:15 p.m. to report an individual who had been stabbed was lying in the road. When officers arrived on the scene, they found a 30-year-old male with lacerations and apparent stab wounds to the neck and head.
The victim, who has not been identified, was taken to Pulaski Community Hospital and subsequently airlifted to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. A condition report could not be obtained without the victim’s name.
The investigation determined the victim’s throat had been cut. He also had been stabbed several times, police said. Although the victim had been pushed down an embankment, authorities indicated he was able to crawl up the embankment to the road, where he was found.
Freeman also is charged with stealing the victim’s 1989 Ford Mustang, which was recovered off Case Knife Road in Pulaski County.
The investigation is continuing and further charges may be pending, according to police.
