County to begin search process for new superintendent

The Pulaski County School Board announced Wednesday that it will begin the process of hiring a new superintendent by seeking public input on qualifications for a new superintendent.
The School Board will make available a survey related to superintendent criteria, which will be sent home with children in Pulaski County Public Schools, provided to staff and made available on the school’s website at www.pcva.us.
Extra copies of the survey will also be available at the Pulaski County Public Library.
In addition to the survey, the School Board will hold a public hearing Oct. 12 at 7 p.m. in the board room of the Pulaski County School Board Office, located at 202 N. Washington Ave. in Pulaski.
"Hiring a new superintendent is among the most important responsibilities of a school board," said School Board Chairman, Paul Phillips. "We want to make sure that the public has a voice in this process. We hope that parents, staff and residents of Pulaski County will take time to fill out the survey or attend the public hearing."
It was announced earlier this summer that Pulaski County’s current superintendent, Dr. Don Stowers, would retire, effective Jan. 1, 2010. He was appointed as superintendent of Pulaski County Public Schools in August 2001 and is retiring after having served as an educator in Virginia for over 39 years.
