September is Library Card Sign-Up month

Today, Sept. 1, kicks off the first day of Library Card Sign-up Month 2009.
Observed since 1987, Library Card Sign-up Month is a time when the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries across the country remind parents that "a library card is the most important school supply of all."
According to the ALA, studies show that children who are read to in the home and who use the library perform better in school and are more likely to continue to use the library as a source of lifetime learning.
In addition, a recent poll by the ALA shows that libraries continued to experience a dramatic increase in library card registration last year. In fact, 68 percent of American adults have a library card.

For information about obtaining a library card, contact the Pulaski Library at (540) 980-7770 or visit either of the county’s libraries at 60 W. Third St. in Pulaski or 300 Giles Ave. in Dublin.
