Frankie Darrell “Sug” Whitaker Sr.

“Let not your heart be troubled. Ye believe in God believe also in me. For in my house there are many mansions.” On Friday, Sept. 25, 2009, Frankie Darrell “Sug” Whitaker Sr. was escorted by angels to his awaited mansion in heaven to be reunited with Jesus and his loved ones. He was the youngest son of Charles and Ollie Whitaker of Pulaski. He was born Oct. 9, 1944 in McDowell County, W.Va. He was preceded in death by his father and mother and three brothers Charles, Eugene and Leonard Whitaker, and his stepfather Rev. Seagle Spence.
He is survived by his wife Mallie Whitaker, two daughters Janie Sizemore of Richlands and Chrystal Whitaker of Pulaski; three sons Frankie D. Whitaker Jr. of Zebulon, N.C., Brad Whitaker and Jadon Bishop of Pulaski; one sister Betty Bowles of Dublin; three brothers Kenneth Whitaker of Austinville and Don and Pete Whitaker of Pulaski; 12 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and his favorite cat Bingo.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. from the Stevens Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Randall Lawrence officiating. Burial will follow in Hufford Cemetery, Pulaski County. Visiting will be Monday evening at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Special thanks and appreciation to Good Samaritan Hospice and the food department at Carilion New River Valley Medical Center, and his special friends.
