Major Lawrence Akers

Major Lawrence Akers, 99 of Richmond, a former long time resident of Dublin, died August 27, 2009. He is survived by his daughter, Anna Sylvadean Hurst and her husband, John S. Hurst 3rd of Richmond, with whom he had lived for the past 4 years; four grandchildren, John S. Hurst 4th of Richmond, Deborah K. Krupp of Chester, Larry Akers and his wife Linda of Draper, Va., and Judy Knicely and her husband Dale of Spotsylvania, VA. Seven great grandchildren and five great, great, grandchildren. He leaves behind several Nieces and Nephews and many, many friends in Dublin as well as Richmond. Mr. Akers was retired from Allied Chemical Plant in Pulaski and had been a member of the Dublin United Methodist Church for 51 years. His family will receive friends at the Bower Funeral Chapel in Pulaski on Sunday from 6 to 8 pm. Funeral service will be held at Dublin United Methodist Church on Monday at 11:00 a.m. with the Reverend Bill Rowland officiating. Interment will take place at the Highland Memorial Gardens in Dublin following the service. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Dublin United Methodist Church.
