Court date set for accused murderer

A two-day jury trial has been scheduled for a Dublin man charged in the 2008 death of a Radford woman.
According to the state judicial system website, French David Kanode is slated to be tried Aug. 24-25 in Pulaski County Circuit Court.
Kanode is charged with solicitation of murder and conspiracy to commit murder in the death of Dawn Meredith Wright. Richard Forest Mabry, who pleaded guilty to first degree murder in Wright’s death, contends Kanode told him to murder the woman as part of an initiation into the Pagan’s Outlaw Motorcycle Gang.
Mabry contends Kanode is a representative of the gang.
Mabry is serving 30 years of a 50-year prison sentence in Wright’s death.
Wright’s body was found several feet off a gravel road in the "Bloomer’s Mountain" section of the county Jan. 23, 2008.
Prosecutors said an autopsy determined Wright died of multiple stab wounds to the chest and back. Police learned she was last seen Jan. 21, when she allegedly left her Radford residence with Mabry and Kanode.
Mabry said Kanode was dropped off at a Black Hollow Road residence and then he and Wright drove a short distance up "Bloomer’s Mountain," where Wright was fatally stabbed.
Prosecutors said Mabry then returned to the residence where Kanode was left, but Kanode was gone. At that point, Mabry allegedly went to Kanode’s residence and told Kanode about the murder.
