Road to be named in honor of late Cloyd District supervisor

The contributions of a long-time member of Pulaski County Board of Supervisors are being recognized by the naming of a Fairlawn road in his honor.
The new road that passes behind the Bojangles restaurant on Lee Highway will bear the name “Warren Newcomb Drive” in recognition of the late Cloyd District supervisor who served the county from 1952 to 1971.
The current board presented a replica of the street sign to Newcomb’s family members at the May meeting.
According to Massie District Supervisor Frank Conner, who made the presentation along with Chairman Joe Sheffey, Newcomb “was an exceptionally nice person” who “did a lot for Pulaski County.”
Newcomb and his late wife ran Fairview Homes for a while, according to Conner.
Newcomb served as vice chairman of the supervisors from 1968-70 and as chairman from 1970-71. He was vice president of the Virginia Association of Counties (VACo) in 1964, president in 1965 and immediate past president in 1966.

He also served on Pulaski County Sewerage Authority.
