William E. Newman, 74 of Spotsylvania County, passed away Tuesday June 30, 2009 at his home.
Bill served over 20 years in the United States Air Force in the Communications field. When he retired in 1975, he had attained the rank of Tech Sergeant and was working as a cryptologist. After retiring from the Air Force, Bill went on to work for the Federal Government in the Communications field working at the Federal Reserve, State Department and eventually retiring from the Pentagon in 1996. He was a member of the Massaponax Baptist Church where he and his wife, Carol renewed their wedding vows in 2005 for their 48th wedding anniversary.
In addition to his wife Carol, Bill is survived by a son Mark Newman and his wife Esperanza, of Plano, TX.; his daughter Melody Newman Seay and her husband Buck of Spotsylvania; two brothers, Ralph D. Newman and his wife Judy of Harrisonburg, and Donald W. Newman of Pulaski; a sister Nancy Jo Newman of Williamsburg and four grandchildren, Wilson, Thomas and Austen Seay and Ashley Newman.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday July 7, 2009 at Found and Sons Funeral Chapels – Cremation Service, 10719 Courthouse Rd., Fredericksburg, VA 22407. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday July 8, 2009 at Massaponax Baptist Church with the Rev. David Hockney officiating. Interment will follow at Quantico National Cemetery.
