Hearing on AEP rate increase July 1

Citizens with concerns about Appalachian Power’s fuel rate request can express those concerns during a public hearing on July 1 in Wytheville.
The State Corporation Commission (SCC) will hold the public hearing on a request by Appalachian Power to increase the portion of the electric bill that pays for the fuel used to generate electricity.
This hearing will give members of the public in Appalachian’s southwestern Virginia service territory a more convenient location to offer testimony as public witnesses.
The hearing is set for 6 p.m. in Snyder Auditorium on the Wytheville Community College Campus. Any person wishing to testify at the hearing should arrive early and notify the SCC bailiff.
This hearing will be held in addition to another hearing on the same request in Richmond. That hearing is set for 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 30 in the SCC’s second floor courtroom located in the Tyler Building.
Public witnesses may comment at both the hearing in Wytheville and the hearing in Richmond, but the Wytheville hearing will be for the sole purpose of receiving testimony from public witnesses.
Interested citizens can submit comments electronically at the SCC’s website, which is www.scc.virginia.gov/case. Click on the "public comments/notices" link and then the "submit comments" button for case number PUE-2009-00038.
The SCC also intends to webcast the audio portion of the June 30 hearing via the internet. For more information about the webcast, visit www.scc.virginia.gov/case.
