PFD mourns the loss of Reed

Pulaski Fire Department is mourning the loss of one of their own after 39-year-old firefighter Jeffrey Houston Reed died Monday in University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville.
According to a statement from the Town of Pulaski, Reed was taken to the facility June 5 after suffering a medical issue while operating a fire engine at the scene of a structure fire on Hogan’s Place Road in Pulaski County.
Reed was taken to Pulaski Community Hospital and then was airlifted to the Charlottesville facility.
Officials said earlier the medical issue was not related to the fire.
According to Pulaski Fire Chief Bill Webb, Reed joined the department as a volunteer in January 2001. He became a paid firefighter in October 2002.
“It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of” Reed, the town statement reads. “The Town of Pulaski extends our deepest sympathy to his family.”
The funeral will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Stevens Funeral Chapel, with burial to follow in Bryant Family Cemetery off Valley Road in Pulaski. Visitation will be at the funeral home Thursday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
