Mary Ann Sanderson Lemons (Nannie to her family), age 90, passed away at her home surrounded by her family on June 23, 2009. She was preceded in death by her husband of forty-two years, Aulden E. Lemons of Pulaski, VA; parents Inez Garrett Sanderson and Robert Lee Sanderson of Bird’s Nest VA; and also her two brothers Garrett Sanderson and John Wesley Sanderson, also of Bird’s Nest. She is survived by her two children and their spouses, daughter Martha L. Jackson and husband Bobby A. Jackson of Draper, and son Robert A. Lemons and his wife Linda P. Lemons of Lenoir, NC; and two sisters-in-law, Helen L. Stanley of Pulaski, VA and Daisy Sanderson of Birds Nest, VA. Mrs. Lemon also leaves behind five grand children: Paige and Jon Cash and their daughter Emma of Pulaski, VA; Lori and Ron Nolan and their children Hillary, Bryce, and Aubrey of Radford, VA; Whitney and Will Storey and their children Ally and Henry of Davidson, NC; Erin and Asa Johnson and their children Jordan and Braxton of Westminster, CO; and Allison and Ned Toby and their children Lance and Camille of Winston-Salem, N.C. Mrs. Lemons was a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, the Eastern Star, and was active in the First United Methodist Church. She was also a teacher for Pulaski County Schools from 1939 to 1943 and 1955 to 1979.
The family will receive friends in the parlor Friday, June 26, 2009 from 10:00 to 11:00 at the First United Methodist Church in Pulaski. A funeral service will follow in the sanctuary, with the Reverend Hugh Kilgore officiating. Burial will be in the Lemons family plot in Oakwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial gifts be made to the First United Methodist Church, 135 4th Street, Pulaski, VA 24301 or Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Attn: Gift Management Services, 5005 LBJ Freeway, Suite 250, Dallas, TX 75244.
The family would like to thank Dr. Don Yoder, Dr. Ken Pendergrast, Dr. Stuart Goldstein, the nursing staff at Pulaski Community Hospital, Home Health Care (Jennifer), Martins Pharmacy, and the four wonderful caregivers (Phyllis, Betty Jean, Cindy, and Kim) who helped us keep our Nannie in her home.
