Jackson W. Vest

Jackson W. West, 95 of the Little Creek Community, Dublin went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 10, 2009 at his home. He was born June 18, 1913 at White Gate, VA the son of the late William Marcel and Ettie Emily Woodyard Vest. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his first wife, Myrtle Morris Vest; two sons, Wesley "Tommie" Vest and Charles Jackson Vest; four brothers, four sisters and was the last one of the family. He started carpenter work as a teenager building houses. In 1967 a partnership was formed as Vest and Wright Construction. They constructed buildings, apartments, houses and motels throughout the state of Virginia. He is survived by his wife, Rose Woodyard Vest; two sons, John Douglas Vest and Bill Vest and wife Debbie of Dublin; two daughters, Freda V. Wright and Rachel Davis and husband Jerry of Dublin; a former daughter-in-law, Phyllis Vest Kirk and husband Harold, Dublin; a half-sister, Sarah Vest Parsell and husband Cassell of Dublin; two step-children and spouses, Alfred and Patricia Woodyard and Rosalee and Rev. David Butcher of Dublin; 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren, 9 step-great-grandchildren and 3 step-great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Friday at 2:00 P.M. at French’s Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Rev. Billy Akers and Rev. Dallas Jewel officiating. Burial in the Hunter Cemetery, Alum Springs. The visitation will be Thursday at French‚ Äôs Chapel from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Arrangements by A. Vest & Sons Funeral Home, White Gate.
