Vernice Carper King

Vernice Carper King, 74, of 1031 Crescent Street, Pulaski, VA died early Thursday morning, June 4, 2009, in the Pulaski Health & Rehab Center, Pulaski. She was born on October 11, 1934 in Pulaski, VA and was the daughter of the late Fred V. Carper and Fannie Hoback Carper. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles Alfred King, Sr. and by a brother, Donald Carper. Mrs. King was a retired employee of the Pulaski County Health Department with more than 35 years of service. She was a longtime member of the Westminister Presbyterian Chapel and a Girl Scout leader for many years with Troop 710 of Pulaski. Surviving are daughters and sons-in-law Vicky & John Goad, Pulaski; Kathy & Bill Jordan, Bradyville, TN; Kris Long, Kalispell, MT; Holly King, Pulaski, sons and daughters-in-law Charles A. King, Jr., & Kathy King, Troutville, VA; John & Penny King, Pulaski, 18 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held Sunday, June 7, 2009, at 2:00 p.m. from the Stevens Funeral Chapel with Rev. Weston Guthrie and Rev. John Grimm officiating. Burial will follow in Thornspring Cemetery, Pulaski Co. Visiting will be Saturday evening at Stevens Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to the Jordan’s Chapel United Methodist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 1626, Pulaski, VA 24301.
