Radford PD loses friend, colleague

The Radford Department of Police and the City of Radford are sad to report the death of retired Police K-9 Dusty. Dusty was found deceased in his kennel this past Sunday apparently from natural causes
Dusty served the agency from early 2002 until his retirement in 2007. During his years of service Dusty and his handler, Detective Sergeant Chris Caldwell, responded to hundreds of calls in Radford and across the entire New River Valley to assist in tracking wanted criminals or missing persons, chase and apprehend criminals escaping arrest, and search for illegal drugs.
Detective Sergeant Caldwell and Dusty were certified through the Virginia Police Work Dog Association (VPWDA) and the North American Police Work Dog Association (NAPWDA). They were also members of the Southwest Virginia Police Training Group.
Caldwell adopted Dusty in September 2007 following his retirement.
